Gamesa installs its 10,000th 850-kW WTG

13 November 2013

  • This milestone was achieved with the assembly of the Adrar wind farm in Algeria
  • The first of these turbines, noted for their reliability and adaptability for complex environments, was installed in Spain in 2001

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, has installed its ten thousandth 850 kW turbine at the Adrar wind farm (Algeria), where 12 G52-850 kW turbines have been erected.

With this milestone, the 850 kW turbine continues to extend its track record: it has been Gamesa's best-selling turbine since it was first assembled at the La Plana wind farm (Spain) in 2001. So far this year, more than 220 of these turbines have been installed across different countries in Europe, as well as in India, China and Algeria, for combined total installed capacity of 180 MW.

Over the years this platform has amply evidenced the ease with which it can be adapted to complex sites and its benchmark reliability, having registered average availability of 98.76% between 2011 and 2012. In all, the Gamesa 850 kW has been installed in 537 wind farms in 20 different countries for close to 120 customers. The Zafarana wind farm (Egypt) holds the record for the biggest development to date, housing 478 of these turbines.

Gamesa 850 kW: reliability and track record

Gamesa's 850 kW platform is benefitting from continuous improvement, accommodating successive new versions with a view to catering to all possible environmental conditions.

This platform's technology levers are speed control and pitch variability; it has been kitted out over time with the latest technology in order to harness more of the wind's energy with the utmost efficiency.

The track record built up, coupled with deep knowledge of current market demands, has enabled Gamesa to continue to add the best technological developments to this platform, which is underpinned by 12 years of proven experience and over 8,500 MW of installed capacity.
