Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, has reached an agreement with Eolus Vind, one of Sweden’s leading wind farm developers, for the supply of four of its G114-2.0 MW turbines in this Scandinavian market.
Under the terms of the agreement, Gamesa will supply, install and commission these 8 MW at the Nötåsen wind farm located in municipality of Sundsvall, starting this summer. The company will also provide the facility’s operation and maintenance (O&M) services for a period of five years.
This contract represents a milestone in Gamesa’s sales strategy as it marks the European debut of its new G114-2.0 MW turbine, designed to yield more power at lower cost at medium and low wind speed sites. This turbine delivers a higher capacity factor and reduces the cost of energy by as much as 10%. With this new order, Gamesa now has contracts and frameworks agreements for its G114-2.0 MW turbine covering 504 MW.
This is the second supply agreement between Gamesa and Eolus Vind for whom it already installed two 850 kW turbines. Also in Sweden, Gamesa recently supplied 20 MW to UK infrastructure manager John Laing at the Svartsvallberget farm which is currently in the process of being started up.
Blade de-icing system
As part of this project, Gamesa will install a system for detecting and eliminating ice on blades that has been custom-developed for Gamesa’s suite of 2.0-2.5 MW turbines. Gamesa’s portfolio of turbines includes products specifically configured and adapted for sites that undergo extreme weather conditions, including sub-zero temperatures. Against this backdrop, the company is also developing another ice prevention system in collaboration with VTT for its platform of 5.0 MW turbines.
Gamesa G114-2.0 MW
The Gamesa G114-2.0 MW wind turbine is a standard-bearer in the sector thanks to its low power density. This new product contributes to one of the company’s top priorities: significantly cutting the cost of energy of the products designed by Gamesa for medium and moderate wind speed sites.
With a rotor spanning 114 metres, the new turbine’s swept area is 38% greater than that of the G97-2.0 MW, while it produces up to 20% more energy a year. The G114-2.0 MW wind turbine, designed to maximise the performance of turbines installed in medium and moderate windy sites, is part of the company’s 2.0-2.5 MW platform, whose track record encompasses the installation of more than 15 GW worldwide and an availability record of over 98%.
