Bilbao, 29th October 2008. Gamesa consolidates an own technology for the predictive maintenance of its wind turbines by means of the development of Gamesa SMP system, based on the analysis of vibrations through accelerometer-type sensors.
It is a leading product in the wind power market thanks to the cutting edge technologies it is equippped with and its global integration into the wind farm communication networks, and also its economical profitability.
Gamesa SMP, which incorporates specific features and functionalities for wind turbines, provides the early detection of failures in the main components and the planning of actions being to the advantage of a minor stoppage time and thus increasing both the wind turbine availability and useful life.
The product is completed by an own developed powerful application for the vibration analysis, which allows the optimisation of the time devoted to the failure diagnosis and the analysis of a greater number of wind turbines.
This equipment stands out from the other existing ones due to its reduced size, low cost, easy assembly, adaptation to changeable operating conditions and access to markets having strict rules. Additionally, it makes the most of the usual wind farm infrastructures, so the need of resources is significantly decreased.
The Gamesa SMP system has been developed by Gamesa's R&D department through its innovative activity and technological solutions allowing the wind turbines performance.
4,500 Gamesa monitored wind turbines, more than 6,700 MW
Gamesa is currently developing its predictive maintenance activity, from its Service department in Pamplona, on a total amount of 282 wind farms, which means 4,500 Gamesa wind turbines installed in different countries throughout Europe, Asia, America and Africa. The above-mentioned predictive maintenance service of the company has the Germanischer Lloyd certification.
Gamesa, within its predictive maintenance integral service, provides its clients with a complete program that copes from the failure diagnosis performed by vibration specialist technicians to the inspection of components using the latest technology advances.
In addition to the vibration analysis, Gamesa carries out its predictive maintenance system with the use of other additional technologies, such as the oil analysis through parameters as viscosity and particle content.
Both the reliability and consolidation of the service offered by the technology of Gamesa SMP are proved thanks to its own evolution: from the management of 100 wind turbines in 2003 to the 4,500 wind turbines being currently managed.
About Gamesa
Gamesa is a company specializing in sustainable energy technologies, mainly wind power. Gamesa is the market leader in Spain and is positioned among the three most important wind turbine generator manufacturers in the world with a market share above 15% in 2007.
Gamesa has installed more the 13,000 MW of its main product lines in 24 countries spread out over four continents. The annual equivalent of this production amounts to more than 2.78 million tonnes of petroleum (TPE) per year and prevents the emission into the atmosphere of over 20.6 million tonnes of CO2 a year.
