The European Commission launched in 2001 the Green Paper Promoting a European framework for corporate social responsibility, where CSR is described as a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis. CSR is the business contribution to sustainable development, as it was stated in the title itself of the Communication from the European Commission 2002 concerning corporate social responsibility.
CSR is nowadays at the centre of economical, social and political debate, this is a fact. There are controversies yet about its scope, and a question is posed: are we facing a new and powerful business management tool that will lead to a new business economy, and as a consequence, the capitalist model might be reformulated to become into a less economist and more humanist model?
Faced with this new business paradigm, Gamesa puts the 5 basis of a sustainable and responsible company into practice:
Being these basic considerations but not sufficient, Gamesa has included these basis into the governance, strategy, processes and systems.
Gamesa is not alone with this initiative; nowadays, the most outstanding companies see the CSR as a opportunity for innovation, differentiation and legitimation.
