Climate change

Gamesa is one of the leading companies in Corporate Responsibility performance and Sustainable Development worldwide. Its activities do actively contribute to the reduction of Greenhouse emission gases (GHGs), to the alignment with Kyoto Protocol objectives and to the achievement of a better sustainable future by means of mitigation of adverse climate change effects.

According to its sustainable-driven position on Caring for Climate, Gamesa has signed on September 4th 2009, the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change, a document issued by the Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change and to be handed over during the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in September 2009 in New York.

This communiqué is being issued by the business leaders of over 500 global companies and calls for an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change that responds credibly to the scale and urgency of the crises facing the world today.

Within this framework, countries are strongly urged to reach an agreement that meets the following guidelines:

  • 1. The agreement must establish a global emissions cap and long-term reduction pathway for all greenhouse gas emissions and sources, for the period 2013 to 2050
  • 2. Developed countries need to take on immediate and deep emission reduction commitments
  • 3. Developing countries will need to draw up their own emission reduction plans
  • 4. Advanced developing countries should continue to develop low-carbon growth plans

The communiqué also requests that the agreement should include:

  • Credible measurement, reporting and verification of emissions
  • Measures to deliver a robust global greenhouse gas emissions market
  • Additional policy measures;
  • A framework for developing countries;
  • A mechanism to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD);
  • A comprehensive global approach.
