In this context and in order to achieve Kyoto objectives, Gamesa’s activity is essential. Gamesa is one of the biggest turbine manufacturer, and a leading company on promotion, construction and sale of wind farms. Its activity firmly contributes to GHGs reduction, to Kyoto targets achievement and to climate change mitigation.
As of December 31 2009, the MW produced and installed by Gamesa have avoided the emission of the following gases:
On the other hand, the Kyoto Protocol provides three innovative instruments (flexibility mechanisms) to give countries a certain degree of flexibility in meeting their targets. One of them is Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) that consists in implementing project activities that reduce emissions in developing countries, in return for certified emission reductions (CERs). The CERs generated by such project activities can be used and traded by developed countries to help meet their emissions targets under the Kyoto Protocol.
Gamesa has promoted 3 wind farms under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) framework:
Those projects are registered at the UNFCCC database and will avoid the emission of more than 725,000 tonnes of CO2/year, as well as contribute to sustainable economical growth in developing countries.
