United Nations Global Compact
The Global Compact is a United Nations’ international initiative. It’s a framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption:
- Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
- Avoidance of any complicity in human right abuses.
- Uphold the freedom of association and effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
- Elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour
- Abolition of child labour.
- Elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
- Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
- Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
- Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
- Work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
In December 2004 the Board of Directors of Gamesa approved a proposal for the company to join the United Nations Global Compact, thus committing itself to ensuring that all group companies support and develop the ten principles of the Compact. As result of this commitment, Gamesa developed and approved the CSR Principles and Code of Conduct.
