This is the first project that Gamesa has led on a Europe-wide scale. It has received the firm backing of the European Commission with a score of 13.5 out of 15 in the first call for proposals for Non-Nuclear Energies, situating the company among the best assessed projects of the 7th Framework Program, allowing it to obtain an outright grant of up to € 5.2 million for its development. Ten European partners are taking part, including manufacturers, wind farm owners and universities. The aim is to develop next-generation WTGs, achieving greater efficiency and reducing maintenance costs. The overall budget amounts to € 7.7 million euros, and the project will be carried out over three years ending in December 2010.
